Hours before delivering her zany performance of "I Kissed A Girl" at the 2009 GRAMMYS, Katy Perry stepped onto the GRAMMY red carpet to unveil the story behind the performance concept — and why she was the only person bold enough to dream it up.

Perry reveals that the performance was partly inspired by Chiquita Banana, joking that only she would come up with something "that ridiculous." She also laughed about making her entrance in a giant banana, admitting that the GRAMMYS — "the biggest, the best, the most respectable" show — were the last place she imagined debuting such a hilarious idea.

Revisit her full red carpet interview, where she opens up about the inspiration behind the staging, her hopes that audiences would remember the GRAMMY performance, and the surreal experience of bringing bold, colorful pop theatrics to Music's Biggest Night.
