In addition to her multiple GRAMMY nominations, Mindi Abair has served the Recording Academy and its Los Angeles Chapter in multiple leadership roles. An unusual leader, her ability to recognize the potential of those around her has band members going overboard with praise. Speaking to the Los Angeles Chapter before going live in 2014 at Nokia Theatre, she explained how her soloist ambitions and urge to play live come together in performance. "Creating a show for people to walk away going, 'Yeah I feel a part of that, … I want to go see the next one,' that's what I want people to walk away thinking," Abair told the Chapter.
