DJ and producer Sanjoy spoke with the Recording Academy's Daniel Mendoza for this episode of Buzzin' filmed at EDC 2016 in Las Vegas. His family left Bangladesh when he was young and in America, music and rap helped him relate to his new environment. His mother, a singer, had him receive early instruction on the tabla drum, and by 12 he had discovered that with FruityLoops software, he could always express his ideas. "When I feel something, I put it down," Sanjoy told Mendoza, although once he became older he committed to using Reason as his software DAW. When asked about whether he writes songs from experience, Sanjoy recollected his many experiences writing songs for Bollywood where he would follow instructions for the music. Like many songwriters, the limitations helped build his creativity and for his own music in the U.S., he can do what he wants and believes in. His full name is Sanjoy Deb and 2016's Dance Under The Influence is his major release so far.
