Chicago Chapter spoke with Swedish songwriter and performer Tove Lo at Lollapalooza 2015 the day after her performance at the festival. "I don't have this artist alter ego that I try to be," Tove Lo said. "You literally just get me." Her solo career sprang from songs she had written for herself, causing friends to push her not to keep them in the drawer. Writing for others, it's hit or miss when she tries to imagine herself in their emotional circumstances. When she gets it right, her signature honest emotion resonates with the unique world of the artist she wrote for. Connecting with the audience the day before — "they were so energetic and jumping with me and sweating with me … it meant a lot."
