New England native Merrill Garbus is a mixer/DJ like no other, and whether her band is Tune-Yards or tUnE-yArDs, her musical ideas are contagious with critics. Texas Chapter caught up with her at Austin City Limits 2014 while she was touring off her album of that year Nikki Nack. "We'll fly over tune-yards in our dreams," was the lyric from one of Garbus' ukulele songs. "To me there is a place where songs grow," she said. In what could be a description of the remixer/DJ mindset generally, she sums it up saying, "Things that have already existed somewhere else then come in to make a greater whole , that's musically what I'm doing."
