GRAMMY-winning nerdy pop-rockers Weezer are back, this time with nostalgia-filled surprises in the form of a new 10-song album: Weezer (The Teal Album), consisting completely of covers.
The new album, which had a surprise drop today, features Rivers Cuomo and company taking on such classics as a-ha's "Take On Me" from 1985, plus GRAMMY-winning hits including TLC's "No Scrubs" and Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." In the spirit of nostalgia, the group's website also offered limited-edition retro-inspired velcro wallets to the first 500 lucky fans.
The collection also includes their previously-released, Hot 100 charting rendition of Toto's "Africa." The Weezer version of the 1982 hit was released in May 2018 following a valiant effort by the Twitter-verse to prompt them to do so. Their cover of the song became the group's first charting song since 2009 (it peaked at No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100), so it seems fitting that they'd want to give fans some more Cuomo-led versions of the hits.
Their music video for "Africa," released back in September, features Weird Al Yankovich playing the role of Cuomo, in a recreation of the video for Weezer's "Undone (The Sweater Song)."

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming: Weezer will also be releasing new music this year. Their 12th studio album, the previously-announced Weezer (Black Album), is due to drop on Mar. 1. It is available for pre-order now, including in a bundle which includes a CD copy of The Teal Album.
You can catch Weezer on tour with the Pixies beginning in March. Show dates and ticket info are available here.
