On New Year's Eve, two longtime metal heroes—Yoshiki of X JAPAN and pivotal New York hair metal group KISS—will be making their TV collab performance debut. The flamboyant and fierce rock acts will perform together as YOSHIKISS on the annual NYE show (and the most-watched television program in Japan) "Red and White Music Battle" ("Kouhaku Uta Gassen") on the NHK network.

"I want us to create a performance that will have a big impact," YOSHIKI said in a recent press release. "I think we're really going to shock people."

Earlier this month, Yoshiki surprised fellow KISS fans (he is a proud superfan) by joining in during the encores at both the Tokyo and Osaka stops on their 2019 End of the Road World Tour. He played the piano during "Beth" and the drums during the band's 1975 classic "Rock and Roll All Nite," the latter which you can watch below.

"We are so honored to have him play with us," Paul Stanley told the Tokyo audience as Yoshiki shared the stage on Dec. 11. The moment was a powerful one for both acts, especially for the Japanese artist who found solace in the music of KISS during an the especially difficult time in his childhood when his father died.

"'KISS saved my life,' explained Yoshiki, who studied classical piano throughout his youth and began drumming as a way of releasing his emotional pain," the press release stated.

"It's an honor to perform on NHK in my favorite country in the world," Gene Simmons said via the same release. "Yoshiki is a Japanese legend, but he never forgets to have a humble heart. I've been influenced by his humble approach to his work."

Stanley added, "Not only is Yoshiki a wonderful pianist and drummer, but he continues to express the importance of living and has had a great impact on us."
