Biography

"I don't remember not singing."

  • Born on April 22, 1936, in Billstown, Ark. Died Aug. 8, 2017 in Nashville, Tenn.
  • "Burning Bridges" and "Gentle On My Mind" were Glen Campbell's first major hits, released in 1966 and 1967, respectively. The album Gentle On My Mind went to No. 1 on the Billboard U.S. Country Albums chart.
  • "Gentle On My Mind" and "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" won him his first four GRAMMY Awards for 1967. Campbell's By The Time I Get To Phoenix won a GRAMMY for Album Of The Year for 1968, making him the first country artist to win the award. Campbell made his GRAMMY stage debut for the 10th GRAMMY Awards when he performed on "The Best On Record" telecast his GRAMMY-winning "By The Time I Get To Phoenix."
  • Campbell joined the Beach Boys for seven months between 1964 and 1965 while singer Brian Wilson recovered from an illness.
  • Having been diagnosed with the disease himself, Campbell supported the Alzheimer's Association and founded his own I'll Be Me Alzheimer's Fund.
