Biography
"It's not how big your pencil is; it's how you write your name." — Dave Mustaine
- Members: David Ellefson, Kiko Loureiro, Dave Mustaine, Dirk Verbeuren
- Formed 1983 in Los Angeles
- The group's first album to break the Top 40 was 1988's So Far, So Good … So What!, which peaked at No. 28 on the Billboard 200. Their 1992 album, Countdown To Extinction, reached No. 2 and spawned the Billboard Hot 100 hit "Symphony Of Destruction."
- Megadeth received their first career GRAMMY nomination for 1990 for Best Metal Performance for Rust In Peace. The group won their first GRAMMY for 2016 in the same category for "Dystopia."
- Did you know? Following his exit from Metallica, Dave Mustaine formed Megadeth. Six songs that Mustaine co-wrote with Metallica appear on their first two studio albums, Kill Em All (1983) and Ride The Lightning (1984).
- In 2016 Mustaine performed a special acoustic concert in Boston with all proceeds benefiting Music Drives Us, a New England-based nonprofit organization supplying grants to music programs designed to effect positive change for people of all ages.
