Biography

"Everything that is pleasant in life is dangerous." — Lemmy Kilmister

  • Members: Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister (died Dec. 28, 2015), Phil Campbell, Mikkey Dee
  • Formed 1975 in London
  • Motörhead released a cover of the R&B standard "Louie Louie" in 1978, which brought the group greater recognition in its native England. The album Ace Of Spades was released in 1980, and the title track has since become the band's best-known song.
  • The band picked up its first GRAMMY win for 2004 with Best Metal Performance for the song "Whiplash." The group has three additional nominations in the category. Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Aerosmith's Joe Perry paid tribute to Kilmister at the 59th GRAMMY Awards in 2016.
  • Kilmister worked as road manager for Emerson, Lake And Palmer and as a roadie for the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
  • Kilmister performed at the MusiCares MAP Fund benefit concert in 2010 with Slash and Matt Sorum. The MusiCares MAP Fund provides addiction recovery services to clients regardless of financial situation.
  • Kilmister joined Girlschool and Whitesnake's Rudy Sarzo on a charity single to benefit Haiti.
