Biography
"I think there's so much honor and integrity and beauty in being able to be who you are."
- Born Sara Beth Bareilles Dec. 7, 1979, in Eureka, California.
- The singer/songwriter hit it big with her 2007 hit "Love Song," which turned conventional love songs on their head and earned Bareilles mainstream success. "Love Song" rose to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
- Bareilles earned her first career GRAMMY nominations at the 51st GRAMMY Awards for Song Of The Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Love Song." She has gone on to earn an additional four career nominations, including for Album Of The Year for the 56th GRAMMY Awards for her 2013 album, The Blessed Unrest. At the 59th GRAMMY Awards she earned a GRAMMY nod for Best Musical Theater Album as the composer and lyricist for the hit Broadway musical "Waitress."
- Did you know? Before she earned a living as a musician, Bareilles held jobs at a petting zoo, as a pizza maker, a janitor, and, naturally, as a waitress.
- Bareilles performed during the 2014 MusiCares Person of the Year gala honoring Carole King, where she performed "Beautiful" with Jason Mraz, Zac Brown and Raining Jane.
- In 2018 Bareilles, along with her "Waitress" co-star Mraz, attended the Recording Academy's GRAMMY Week 2018 briefing with members of Congress to advocate for fair pay for music creators. The briefing was held at the Atkinson Theatre in New York, where "Waitress" launched.
- Bareilles has lent her celebrity to a number of charitable causes over the years, including Save the Music, Augies Quest, breast cancer research, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Just Be campaign.
