Every year during Music Advocacy Day, the Recording Academy demonstrates the breadth and reach of music in every state and in every community. While Music Advocacy Day officially took place on Sept. 25, with more than 2,100 Recording Academy members participating in over 200 meetings with their Congressional representatives across the country, its impact continues to resonate. 

On Oct. 1, 2025, Governor Jared Polis proclaimed the date as Music Advocacy Day in the state of Colorado, recognizing the Academy’s 11th annual initiative and commending its leadership in advancing creators’ rights. The proclamation also celebrates Colorado’s vibrant and iconic music scene, honoring venues like Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Fiddler’s Green, and Levitt Pavilion, as well as the Colorado Music Industry Alliance (CMIA) for its ongoing advocacy in the state.

The governor’s unique recognition of Music Advocacy Day is an affirmation that music is a cornerstone of Colorado’s culture and economy. A 2018 report from Michael Seman, former director of Creative Industries Research and Policy at the University of Colorado Denver, found that the state’s music industry contributes $1.4 billion to the economy and supports more than 16,000 jobs.  

In Colorado, the Recording Academy represents a robust music community. On Sept. 25, Academy members met with the offices of U.S. Representatives Jason Crow, Joe Neguse, Diana DeGette, and Brittany Pettersen to discuss issues facing the music community — specifically the need for reasonable safeguards to protect creators from being exploited by AI and federal funding for the arts. These conversations amplified how federal policy decisions directly affect local artists and the broader creative economy.
