1. Be A Voice Of Change For Music

There are two types of music professionals today: those who complain about policy issues in the industry and those who do something about it. In order to make real change, music makers need to raise their voices and take the seat at the table they deserve. Otherwise, they'll continue to be on the menu. If you aren't advocating for your industry, who will?

2. Push Policy Forward

By registering for District Advocate day, you'll have the chance to meet with your members of Congress to discuss important legislation that they are presently considering—policies that directly affect you, the music creator. To learn more about the policy issues in front of Congress, brush up at our Advocacy Issues & Policy page.

3. Share Your Story & Talents

Good news, you don't have to be a policy expert to help make meaningful policy change. On District Advocate day, what's most important is being yourself, a local music maker.  By sharing your passion and experience with local lawmakers and staff, they can hear and understand, first hand, how their decisions affect music creators. You have a  great story to tell and talents galore to share. Why not share them where they count the most?

4. Bond With Fellow Academy Members

Let's face it, the music business is an industry built on relationships, but many music makers work in isolation, whether it's holed up in a studio for days on end or out on the road with a small crew. District Advocate day is a perfect opportunity to connect with like-minded Recording Academy members who are passionate about making a difference. Who knows, you might end up making a new music or business connection that lasts.

Not a Recording Academy Members? You can still get involved with District Advocate day. Here's how…

5. It Works!

Want results? Look no further than the Music Modernization Act, which resulted directly from the years of direct lobbying from constituents like you during past District Advocate days! The MMA was signed into law last year, marking the largest update to music legislation in the past 40 years, and it would not have been possible without the dedicated music makers who took a stand, including more than 1,500 music creators who participated in last year's District Advocate day. Advocacy works! So what are you waiting for? Recording Academy members can register now!
