Beyoncé, the Dixie Chicks, Gnarls Barkley and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are the first performers announced for the 49th Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast on Feb. 11, it was announced today by The Recording Academy. Critically acclaimed actor Terrence Howard, Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson, two-time GRAMMY winner Pink, and R&B sensation Rihanna will appear as presenters.
The performers are all multiple nominees. Nine-time GRAMMY Award winner Beyoncé has four nods: Best Female R&B Vocal Performance ("Ring The Alarm"), Best Contemporary R&B Album (B'Day), Best R&B Song ("Deja Vu") and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration ("Deja Vu" with Jay-Z).
Eight-time GRAMMY winners the Dixie Chicks are nominated for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for "Not Ready To Make Nice," and Album Of The Year and Best Country Album for Taking The Long Way.
Newcomer Gnarls Barkley is up for Record Of The Year and Best Urban Alternative Performance for "Crazy," and Album Of The Year and Best Alternative Music Album for St. Elsewhere.
GRAMMY winners the Red Hot Chili Peppers earned six nominations: Album Of The Year, Best Rock Album, and Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package for Stadium Arcadium, and Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal, Best Rock Song and Best Short Form Music Video for "Dani California."
Musical directors for the telecast and pre-telecast are Rickey Minor and Larry Batiste, respectively.
The 49th Annual GRAMMY Awards are produced by John Cossette Productions in association with Ken Ehrlich Productions for The Recording Academy. Ken Ehrlich and John Cossette are executive producers, Walter C. Miller is producer/director, Tisha Fein is the coordinating producer, David Wild is the writer, and Tzvi Small is supervising producer.
The 49th GRAMMY Awards will take place live on Sunday, Feb. 11, at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast in HDTV and 5.1 surround sound on the CBS Television Network at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).
