The deadline for the GRAMMY Foundation's inaugural GRAMMY Camp is approaching. GRAMMY Camp is a new program designed to give students the opportunity to learn about and experience the music industry firsthand through a nine-day interactive camp. Sixty high school students from around the country will be selected to participate. Applications are available online, and the deadline is June 17.
GRAMMY Camp will launch July 30 and run through Aug. 7 at Citrus College in Glendora, Calif. The camp provides high school students the opportunity to study five specific career tracks audio engineering, music business, film/television scoring and arranging, performance, and songwriting and to learn how those careers influence the recording industry.
Students will take part in studio sessions, master classes, specialized clinics, question-and-answer sessions with industry specialists, and a field trip. All activities culminate in a showcase concert at the end of the week.
Instructors for GRAMMY Camp are selected from music business and recording faculty at the host institution, as well as from GRAMMY winning and nominated members of The Recording Academy. This approach should provide students with information from both academic and real-world perspectives.
Scholarships for the program are available for students who demonstrate financial need.
GRAMMY Camp is sponsored by pro audio manufacturer Shure, and is the newest addition to the Foundation's slate of GRAMMY in the Schools programs, which include Career Day, GRAMMY SoundChecks, GRAMMY Pro Sessions, GRAMMY Jazz Ensembles and GRAMMY Signature Schools.
