Daryl P. Friedman, Chief Industry, Government & Member Relations Officer for The Recording Academy, issued a statement today in response to the Department of Justice's ruling after reviewing the ASCAP and BMI content decrees:  "Due to 75-year old consent decrees governing ASCAP and BMI, songwriters have had one hand tied behind their backs for decades. Instead of fixing this, the Department of Justice today tied the other hand. We strongly disagree with  the DOJ's decision to require 100 percent licensing given the negative impact the policy will have on songwriters.”​
