The Recording Academy Statement Re: Petition for Credits on Apple Music

The Recording Academy has been a longtime supporter of music creators’ rights to proper acknowledgement in the form of credits across all digital platforms. Our 2012 ‘Give Fans The Credit’ campaign advocates this important cause, calling for music streaming services to ensure performers, songwriters and studio professionals alike are credited for their work on digitally released recordings. Jon Burr’s recent petition challenging Apple Music to provide proper credits is commendable. This inspiring effort is emblematic of the immeasurable passion that music creators dedicate to their craft and, judging from the petition’s positive response, proof that music fans care about credit information. It is our hope that all streaming services, including Apple Music, recognize the importance of this matter, and give music creators the credit they so rightfully deserve.
