Anyone involved in the fight for music advocacy can agree that true impact has far more to do with practical action than lip service. To that end, a crucial day is upon us — one that directly affects the well-being of the creators that imbue our day-to-day lives with beauty and meaning.
Welcome to District Advocate Day, the largest grassroots advocacy movement for music and its makers — and it's happening today.
As the first return to an in-person District Advocate Day since the pandemic, the 2022 edition will also incorporate virtual appearances — with close to 2,000 members set to show up either physically or digitally. Participants will span 45 states and will reach over 75 percent of all of Congress; meetings with key Senators and some congressional candidates will also occur.
Held annually in the fall, Recording Academy members visit the local district offices of their elected congressional representatives to discuss issues affecting their livelihoods and careers. This year, advocates will focus broadly on protecting and promoting fair compensation and free expression for all music creators.
Key issues that will be discussed are as follows:
Additionally, participants will be given opportunities to engage with lawmakers prior to their meetings in a series of calls-to-actions across social media and other platforms to ensure immediate and sustained activism.
Even if you're not registered to participate in District Advocate, you can still get involved in the fight. Add your voice and contact your representatives to make a dramatic difference in the ongoing fight for all music creators!
I’m proud to join @GRAMMYAdvocacy and thousands of @RecordingAcad members across the country today to fight for creators’ rights and tell Congress to support laws that build up and sustain the music community. #DistrictAdvocate #SupportMusic pic.twitter.com/bpaRbPYHHI
