"As soon as I start writing a song, I have to be able to close my eyes and see the music video. I feel like that helps me to complete the song, if I can imagine the visuals that are attached to it."
- Born Kimbra Lee Johnson on March 27, 1990, in Hamilton, New Zealand
- Kimbra released her debut album, Vows, in Australia in 2011. The album was reworked and released in the United States and Europe with additional tracks, including "Come Into My Head," "Warrior" (featuring Mark Foster and DJ A-Trak) as well as a cover of Nina Simone's "Plain Gold Ring." Vows debuted at No. 14 on the Billboard 200. Kimbra's popularity quickly spread in 2012 after joining forces with Gotye to sing vocals on his smash single, "Somebody That I Used To Know."
- Kimbra won her first career GRAMMYs for 2012 for Record Of The Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Somebody That I Used To Know" with Gotye.
- Did you know? Kimbra did the preproduction for her second album, 2014's The Golden Echo, in her bedroom.
- In 2013 Kimbra donated her first electric guitar, which her parents bought her in 2002, to benefit the Hospice Waikato and Montana Catering Bucket List Banquet.
